Last night I went to a screening for this series of short films that were made in conjunction with Nike Sportswear for the Windrunner jacket. My friends Adam Jay Weissman and Chris Robinson directed two of the sets, and then graffiti artist Todd James directed the last set. Adam’s and Chris’ are really entertaining and here is the first in Adam’s set.

Rick Hoffman Presents The Windrunner

Throughout the running boom of the late seventies there was one name that was synonymous with winning, a name that belonged to a man by the name of Rick Hoffman.

Inspirational track coach and creator of the wildly successful ‘Rick Hoffman Presents: Rick Hoffman’s Running To Win,’ Hoffman owned the sport as his wrote, directed, produced and coached 126 instructional episodes before falling on hard times. Brought down by a controversial training technique in his final episode, ‘Procreate to Win,’ Hoffman quit coaching to pursue an acting career.

With little left in his short shorts than a banana and a stopwatch, Hoffman cast himself in a late night infomercial promoting a revolutionary running jacket called the Windrunner. What followed led to a scandal that gripped the nation and rocked the sport of running to its very core.

Painstakingly restored and seen here for the first time in 27 years, ‘Rick Hoffman Presents: The Windrunner’ is the first of three videos related to the infamous ‘Attack on the Track,’ an event that that propelled Nike to its position as the leading sport brand in the world.
