I am completely floored by this. Kanye might be the most artsy hip hop artist, and with that comes a lot of irony, but T-Pain might be the most un-ironic hip hop artist which could push him to the top of the artsy food chain without him even knowing. In art, this would be called Neo-pop, however, I’d call this neo-bling or post-bling. In the wake of the bling era and the current recession, T-Pain goes way beyond anything anyone has ever done before to create this Big Ass Chain, much like Lil Jon did with his Guinness Book of World Records “Crunk Ain’t Dead” chain. A viewer might at first see irony in the Big Ass Chain, but I see none at all. Irony causes too much critical contemplation. This is the evolution of bling had the recession NOT happened. Almost like Biff World in Back To The Future II. I don’t think there’s any hidden meaning in this Big Ass Chain. The meaning is only what one perceives at first glance; there is no gap between what the work is in itself and what is perceived. Reminds me of this movie IDIOCRACY written and directed by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead, Office Space). “One big ass taco”
