SoundCtrl is a monthly event featuring industry leaders and NYC based music and technology companies. The third event in the series, titled “Artist Disruptors”, took place at SOBs on 7/23 and featured artists who have used the internet in creative ways to further their careers. The panel was moderated by Daniel Weisman (Wale’s manager / Elitaste.com). Panel participants were Def Jam’s singer/songwriter Chrisette Michele, music video director Rik Cordero, and singer/songwriter Toby Lightman (formally signed to Atlantic Records). In the video above the panelists discuss some of their strategies, as well as their favorite blogs and online tools and how they have used them to their advantage.

The studio was designed by architect firm BOTO Design Inc, of Santa Monica, California, and was completed in 1988. It contains a recording and stage complex, and covers 55,000 sq ft.
Warner Bros. helped to pay for the recording studio built in Chanhassen, a $10 million world-class recording facility that also was a soundstage. When Prince fell out with Warner Bros., Warner executives insisted on a return on their investment, which resulted in several major artists recording their albums at Paisley Park Studios, at times even against Prince’s wishes.
