Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the 29 Apr 2009 , in the Announcements category

MIT’s legacy as one of the world’s most prestigious technical universities has a curious byproduct — a history of clever pranks, or “hacks.”

On Monday April 27, 2009, hacks at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology placed a replica of an MBTA’s Red line car on the Great Dome at MIT. Check out more pranks after the jump (more…)

Kinetic Flexible oled Cell Phone

Charting the future of cell phone technology, Kyocera recently unveiled a kinetic energy-powered phone that is capable of folding up like a wallet. Designed by industrial designer Susan McKinney, the EOS phone consists of a soft, semi-rigid polymer skin surrounding a flexible low-energy OLED display. Shape memory allows the phone’s keys to pop up when in use and blend in with the surface during downtime.

0 Comments Book recommendation: Beat The Reaper

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the 08 Apr 2009 , in the Announcements category

I read this book on vacation. It was incredible. Apparently Amazon is doing trailers for books now which is kind of cool. Check out the trailer. Click HERE to buy it
Synopsis:
Making a hit man turned medical intern a sympathetic figure would be a tall order for most authors, but first-time novelist Bazell makes it look easy in this breezy and darkly comic suspense novel. The Locanos, a mob family, take in 14-year-old Pietro Brwna (pronounced Browna) after a couple of thugs gun down the grandparents who raised him in their New Jersey home. Bent on revenge, Pietro pursues the killers and executes them a year later. Impressed by Pietros performance, David Locano recruits Pietro as a hit man. After more traumas, Pietro tries to make a break from his past by entering the witness protection program. Now known as Peter Brown, he eventually lands a position as a doctor at a decrepit Manhattan hospital, where by chance a former Mafia associate turns up as a patient and threatens to rat him out. The hero’s wry narrative voice, coupled with Bazells artful use of flashbacks to sustain tension and fill in Pietro’s past, are a winning combination.

2 Comments Nike Air Yeezy finally

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the 07 Apr 2009 , in the Announcements category

The time has come. I have some size 14 Yeezy’s. I was in Mexico on vacation for the past week so I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to secure a pair. I had a few leads and thankfully the good folks at Nike came through. I got back to LA last night and went straight to see Asher Roth’s show at Key Club (wasn’t bad) wishing I could rock them but couldn’t. Earlier today I went and checked out my homey DJ Skee’s new office/studio which is going to be sick once he finishes moving in. I then headed to Nike’s Room72 in Marina Del Rey to pick up a hard to find pair of size 14 Air Yeezy’s. I opened the box in the car and had a crazy flashback type thing; all the moments of me opening my most favorite basketball sneakers in my life went through my head like something in a movie and I felt like a kid again opening that box (David Robinson pumps, Jordan V’s, Foamposites, Penny 1, Penny 2). I had an epiphany that while I’ve been excited about a lot of sneakers in recent years, most are either retros or a different take on a pre-existing show. Sure, some of the Jordan hybrids have been tight (Spizikes), but for the most part, no new NIke shoe (not retro, hybrid, etc) has gotten me excited in quite some time. I’m trying to remember the last one; maybe the Air Max 97 or the Foamposite. Although the Yeezy has hybrid qualities, it is essentially a totally new shoe and it’s fucking amazing. Although Nike has never been anything less than the best, the Yeezy could mark a new era of total domination on Nike’s part and if this second colorway, spotted at the blog of Nike’s own Mark Arcenal, is any indication then I don’t need a watch to know that the time is now

0 Comments Wale’s Pandora Video Series

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the , in the Allido Records category

Pandora is an automated music recommendation and Internet radio service created by the Music Genome Project. Users enter a song or artist that they enjoy, and the service responds by playing selections that are musically similar. Users provide feedback on approval or disapproval of individual songs, which Pandora takes into account for future selections. Over 400 different musical attributes are considered when selecting the next song. These 400 attributes are combined into larger groups called focus traits. There are 2,000 focus traits. Examples of these are rhythm syncopation, key tonality, vocal harmonies and displayed instrumental proficiency. Basically, the site/service is really fucking cool.

Pandora hit us up about participating in their relatively new video series while we were in San Francisco at the end of January and as huge fans, we jumped at the opportunity. Here is what we ended up with.

0 Comments Rapping Southwest Flight Attendant

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the 25 Mar 2009 , in the Announcements category

Dude spits it straight Fresh Prince style…actually impressed by the audience participation. Would love to see a white flight attendant do the announcement in the form of a “Power Ballad.” Don’t know what a power ballad is?

Hilarious Idolator article on power ballads can be seen HERE
Power ballads aren’t music. They’re television. They’re soap operas. They’re ham acting in ridiculous outfits on cheap sets, reciting lousy dialogue, and getting to us thanks to shameless stroking of basic-unto-atavistic impulses many people are convinced, at some point in their life, that only they have. And as a result, the people who make them, who never came alive on music journalism’s pages, do so much better on TV. The Journey episode of VH1’s Behind the Music? Total classic. And the Time-Life infomercial is even better.
