Nike essentially created another type of shoe we needed to have

But remember how sick Barry Sanders was? And Bo Jackson (really sad he never got to realize his potential). You can’t sell a lot of football cleats to people who don’t play football. But you can sell CROSSTRAINERS!

And PRO STARS!

0 Comments Jay Z f. Foxy Brown and Babyface “Sunshine”

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the , in the Announcements category

This is one of my favorite Jigga songs ever. His first verse is so fire:
Who be, in a Jappy restaurant, eating sushi
Drinking saki, it’s me, and my mami with the doobie
Cutie, smellin like Miyake, half-Phillipine thing
For now, let’s call her Suki, got me, booty bangin
Properly, in Versace pants, cocky bow-legged stance
A thing of beauty, watch me, body crazy
Tits Firm like Nature, Foxy, Nas and AZ
Truly reason to bug the toolie and keep laced in jewelry watch me
Girlie tried to lure me and lock me you gotta get up early
Cause who’s gettin played is not me
“Surely you jest,” she said, “if you thought I was purely
out for the bucks you woulda fucked stuck and dropped me”
I said maturely, “You right
but better safe than sorry, but for the lovebirds
can move to the suburbs, I need to double check your story
To make sure that you one of a kind
And you deserve to be my Sunshine”

1 Comments Coming August 5th: DJ Alizay ROCK THE BELLS Mixtape

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the 31 Jul 2008 , in the Announcements category

DJ Alizay. You might know him from WKYS. You might know him as Wale’s official DJ (when he decides to show up at the airport on time, otherwise I’m the back up DJ). You might know him cuz he’s the best DJ in the DMV. Well, he somehow had the time to put together this mixtape of great 90s hip hop. He was gonna call it The Real American Idols but I was like “dude, call it Rock The Bells…you’re on the Rock The Bells tour, it’s an LL Cool J song, and most everyone on the tour is also on the mixtape!” So it’s now called ROCK THE BELLS: THE REAL AMERICAN IDOLS. Here’s two tracks so you can get a taste of what to expect. And of course, August 5th, it will be available for download here!

The Great Rakim Medley
Nas “Philosophical Gangsta”

2 Comments Christian The Lion and Jessica The Hippo

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the 24 Jul 2008 , in the Announcements category

When I saw this first video, I thought it was fake because it was ridiculous. I then realized it wasn’t fake but it was still ridiculous. Kind of amazing though.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get more ridiculous, we have a news story about a South African family with their pet hippo Jessica. A HIPPO! They start the news piece off with “the hippo is responsible for like the most human deaths in the animal kingdom.” Just process this for a second and watch the clip. Note: peep the dog’s reaction at 1:29 when the hippo steps on him by accident. I guess there was a TV show made around Christian. I can just picture trainers off camera with their tranq guns loaded (see after the jump)

Reminds me of a funny clip in an underrated movie

1 Comments Old EW article about Maurice Starr (New Edition, New Kids On The Block)

Article written by the brilliant The Elitaste on the 22 Jul 2008 , in the Announcements category

Given the fact that the New Kids On The Block are making a comeback this summer, I thought some might find this article about mastermind behind their initial rise to fame, Maurice Starr.

Published in issue #19 Jun 22, 1990
Starr Maker
Meet the man who brought you New Kids on the Block — Maurice Starr talks about commercial success, finding the next hot thing, and managing his artists careers

By Ron Givens

Four pencil-thin, quasi-pubescent girls shuffle onto the stage of the Strand Theatre in matching outfits: black T-shirts with a pink logo that looks like smeared bubble gum, black Spandex biking shorts, black sneakers. They’ve come to this nearly empty theater in the blue-collar Dorchester section of Boston in late May to audition for a talent show, which explains why they look identical, all the way up to their shoulder-length perms. Three of the girls, wearing metal-frame glasses, line up in a row and the fourth stands in front. A prerecorded music track begins to play, causing a series of metallic beeps like cheap sci-fi sound effects to echo around the Strand. The quartet begins to clap rhythmically and make small side-to-side movements. The girl in front starts to rap. Her recital is wooden. Her words are indecipherable. (more…)

I didn’t know her personally but I knew who she was and knew how important she was to the scene.

The Queen of Baltimore Club Music, K-Swift (Khia Edgerton) died last night due to a drowning accident in the swimming pool at her home.

K-Swift just died at Good Samaritan Hospital from a head injury sustained from a swimming pool accident. Tragic news for all of K-Swift’s fans, friends, and family.
