Went to a midnight showing last night. I got there 30 minutes early and it seemed like all the seats were taken. However, my hawk vision spotted an opening 4 rows from the top. I quickly made my way up the stairs to ask the couple if the 3 seats surround them were taken (2 on the woman’s side, 1 on the man’s side). They each indicated the seats on either side of them were open. I kindly asked the man if he’d mind moving down one so I could sit next to my friend. He said he minded. Who says that? It’s one seat. So I then ask if this second seat next to his ugly wife/girlfriend is open, as it’s covered in a purse and jacket. It was. These people were taking up an additional three seats at a midnight showing of INDIANA JONES. Who does that?
Well, the movie sucked. It was too long. It looked horrible (was lit very poorly…pay attention to the lighting coming through the windows in every interior scene). The action was *yawn*. And the ending? ABSURD. Honestly, don’t waste your time or money. I will say this…how do you fuck that one up?

New Album, New Fears, Same Old Attitude
By NATE CHINEN
AHMIR Thompson was sitting in the back of a town car inching through Midtown when he received a vexing call from management, not entirely unlike the one that opens “Rising Down” (Def Jam), the new album by the Roots. One month before its release there were problems with a hidden track, and Mr. Thompson, better known as ?uestlove, the Roots’ drummer and bandleader, made no attempt to hide his frustration, raising his voice in protest. Philadelphia’s hip-hop collective the Roots are off to a rough start at their new label.
After seven studio albums with MCA and Geffen, they signed to Def Jam in 2006 at the behest of then-label president Jay-Z. However, since Jay-Z’s departure last December, things have been a bit more difficult.
In an effort to please Def Jam executives with a radio single, drummer Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson says the group presented the pop-leaning “Birthday Girl” featuring Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump. Label staffers praised the track, but fans panned it, and the tune was stripped from the U.S. version of their new album, “Rising Down.”

It had to be the first time in history that a presidential candidate had a hip-hop moment.
Barack Obama, who says he listens to Jay-Z along with his “old school guy” favorites like Earth, Wind & Fire and the Temptations, alluded to the rapper’s 2003 hit “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” on Thursday to sweep away concerns about his pugnacity. (more…)
I can’t tell if this is the most absurd thing I’ve ever seen or one of the more genius things I’ve seen of late. He used to be a stylist for a bunch of big stars.
“Controversial” and “Disney” usually don’t go hand in hand. Until now.
Song of the South is a feature film produced by Walt Disney, released on November 12, 1946 by RKO Radio Pictures and based on the Uncle Remus cycle of stories by Joel Chandler Harris. It was Walt Disney’s first live-action film, though it also contains major segments of animation. The live actors provide a sentimental frame story, in which Uncle Remus relates the folk tales of the adventures of Br’er Rabbit and his friends. These anthropomorphic animal characters appear in animation. The film has never been released on home video in the USA because of content which Disney executives believe would be construed by some as racially insensitive towards Blacks and is thus subject to much rumor, although it does exist on home video in the UK. The hit song from the film was “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah”, which won the 1947 Academy Award for Best Song and is frequently used as part of Disney’s montage themes. The film inspired the Disney theme park ride Splash Mountain. (more…)
